George Ezra (born June 7, 1993 in Hertford) is a British artist, author, composer and performer of folk-pop music. In the early summer of 2014, George Ezra wrote and sang the song Budapest, which ranks in the top ten singles sales in the UK and in more than 10 European countries, including Germany, Denmark and Switzerland.
George Ezra then released his first studio album, ‘Wanted on Voyage’, which three months later won first place in British sales.
His second album, Staying at Tamara’s, was subsequently released in 2018.
The song, Budapest, has become iconic and resists time.
But why is it called Budapest?
To find out, we offer this excerpt from an interview published in 2014.
George Ezra relates the genesis of the song:
“For my album, I traveled by train in Europe for one month. I just put on paper everything I saw and the people I met. When I came home, I took the words I wrote and made some songs. I have friends who say, ‘I’m going to sit down and write three songs today’ and they’re doing it. I am not able to do it. I cannot just write a song.
I needed to do this trip and it helped me a lot. Some songs I wrote asked me for a lot more time, but for the song, Budapest, it was quite easy. For this trip to Europe, the city of Budapest was the only city I planned to visit where I did not go. When you look at the lyrics, it’s just a list of things I have that I would be willing to give up for someone. ”

And here are the lyrics of Georges Ezra’s song Budapest:
My house in Budapest
My hidden treasure chest
Golden grand piano
My beautiful Castillo
For You
You
I’d leave it all
My acres of a land
I have achieved
It can be hard for you
Stop and believe
But for you
You
I’d leave it all
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
My many artifacts
The list goes on
If you just say the words
I’ll up and run
Oh, to you
You
I’d leave it all
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change never make a change
And baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change never make a change
Baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
My friends and family
They, do not understand
They fear they’d lose so much
If you take my hand
But, for you
You
I’d lose it all
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change never make a change
And baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
My house in Budapest
My hidden treasure chest
Golden grand piano
My beautiful Castillo
You
I’d leave it all
