Szimpla Kert is the first Ruin Bar in Budapest, opened in 2002 in a building in ruins once occupied by apartments and a factory.
Located in the city center in the 7th district (Kazinczy u 14), the ruin bar, Szimpla Kert, has been awarded the title of the 3rd best bar in the world by Lonely Planet magazine.
It is an iconic Hungarian night spot where you can experience a unique underground atmosphere, have a drink, listen to live music and watch movies.
You will discover something unusual on each floor, one more surprising than the other.
The decoration of this ruin bar will surprise you with its ecletic mix of old objects, sometimes removed from their original functions and various tags on the walls — a happy mess that gives imparts an undeniable charm.
Szimpla Kert is a meeting place where you can have a drink in a relaxed atmosphere. On the ground floor and two upper floors, you will find nine bars with more than 400 drinks offered (beer from 0.3l to 1.3 euros for example).
You can also eat there from a menu that includes various kinds of burgers, tapas, soups and assorted main courses.
There is even a room with a shisha bar (apple shisha at about 11.5 euros).
There is no dance floor but the big central courtyard quickly becomes electric after 23:00.
The Szimpla Kert can also be visited during the day.
It hosts a Farmers’ Market every Sunday from 09:00 to 14:00 with stands for Hungarian producers. This is the opportunity to discover local specialties such as cheeses, sausages, breads and other dishes that you can buy and eat on site.
Every Sunday, a brunch is available for 5,000 Ft per person (about 15 euros). Reservations can be made on line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
